What You Can Expect from Counseling With Us

First and foremost: You will be honored.

Everything you bring — including the parts of you that feel broken, burdened, or hurting — will be met with deep respect and care. We consider those tender places sacred and worthy of kind, attentive support.

You will be invited to be known.
We believe that counseling should be an invitation into transformation, not a demand for it.

Throughout our work together, we will ask meaningful questions and gently invite reflection. But we’ll always remain mindful of what you need as you unearth and examine the deeper layers of your story. We will check in often to ensure that the pace feels safe, attuned, and responsive to your system and your heart.

You will be invited to go at your pace.
Disclosing, revealing, and allowing change takes time — especially for those who carry complex trauma or deep protective strategies. We honor your timing, your rhythms, and the protective parts of you that may be cautious about this work.

We will be honest with you.
While we aim to create warmth and safety, we are not here to simply nod or echo. Many clients express frustration with therapy that feels like “just talking to a friend over coffee.” You are seeking healing — and we take that seriously. With care and respect, we will offer reflections, ask questions, and gently name what we notice.

We will invite all of you into the room.
Not just the parts you’ve been taught are acceptable, presentable, or easy to love. Healing asks us to risk showing up fully — and we will walk alongside you as you do.

We are committed to doing our own work.
Our ability to hold space for others depends on our willingness to tend to our own inner landscapes. We are committed to ongoing personal growth, inner reflection, and the deepening of our own hearts. We do this work not just professionally, but personally.

WHY IS THIS IMPORTANT?

We do not come in the room as people only reciting some nice book knowledge or the newest research (we do that stuff too!).  As therapists, we are committed to doing the hard work too.  Yep, we are sojourners along this path of being a human.

We are committed to a deeply authentic exploration of our own hearts. We know how challenging hard work is and so we do not invite you into hard places flippantly or carelessly.  We do so because we believe redemption is possible and because we have experienced healing and redemption in broken places.  We are excited about that.  We want other people to know that feeling too.

"In the entire history of the universe, let alone in your own history, there has never been another day just like today, and there will never be another just like it again. Today is the point to which all your yesterdays have been leading since the hour of your birth. It is the point from which all your tomorrows will proceed until the hour of your death. If you were aware of how precious today is, you could hardly live through it. Unless you are aware of how precious it is, you can hardly be said to be living at all."      -Frederick Buechner
